I Believe in Ghosts (Part 2)
Continued from Part 1…
My younger brother and I slept in one bedroom, next to our parents’. The bedroom had no door, just a curtain, which was tied up next to the wall. My brother had already gone to bed, and I had already developed an affinity for nocturnal living. I was awake—wide awake. I saw her again.
I was staring at the doorway, about 10 feet away from me. I saw the curtain door move. I looked back at the windows—they were shut. I turned to look at the doorway again. There she was, the pale white lady in tattered clothes. I was petrified! I could not move or speak. I just stared at her left hand as she waved for me to come to her, like the Sirens of Ulysses. I did not move. The pale figure slowly began to come nearer. I could not make a sound! Closer and closer, she came to me.
Finally, as her hand was a few inches from my face, I managed to pull the linens over my head. I prayed. I prayed for hours it seemed. I never dared to pull the sheets off that night.
I was still 8 years old when this happened. From that night forward, I slept with a blanket over my head until we moved, when I was 11. Looking back, I don’t know what I would do if I ever slept there again.
Can I prove that ghosts exist? No. Do I need further proof that ghosts exist? No, thank you.
